The Unofficial Rules Of School NEW!Helping Students With ASD, ADHD, And Others Who Lack Social Intuition9 CLOCK HOURS / 1 CREDIT Saturday, October 18th, 2008
Sorry, . . . we're . . .
If you have been explicitly promised a spot, don't worry, we still have you covered, but we cannot accommodate any additional walk-ins or registrations for this class.
We do still have room in our other classes!

As we look at our classes we know many students who "get it". They seem to innately understand what is expected of them from their peers, and the educators at school. Other students are at a complete loss . . . they have no idea how to successfully navigate the social land-mines each day that they come upon. They have difficulty regulating their emotions, and struggle with communication skills. It is sad, but there is good news . . . we can ALL help these students! Come join us and learn how to teach your students who struggle socially -- the unofficial rules of school!Times: Registration & Continental Breakfast 8:00-9:00am, Class 9:00am-6:00pm Location: EWU Room, Spokane Valley Mall See Driving Directions.

ResiliencyWhat It Means To You And Your Students9 CLOCK HOURS / 1 CREDIT Saturday, October 25th, 2008
As educators, we are interested in academic success for each child in our classrooms. We also want young people who can approach life's challenges with character, skill, and optimism, instead of choosing destructive paths for themselves and others. Resiliency theory can help. It shifts our thinking about deficits to thinking about assets, from problems to solutions. this course will explain resiliency theory and also provide practical, effective strategies for making your classroom and school a place that fosters resiliency in our kids. Applicable K-12.
Times: Registration & Continental Breakfast 8:00am-9:00am, Class 9:00am-6:00pm. (Saturday)

When Bullies Work The Web NEW!9 CLOCK HOURS / 1 CREDIT Saturday, November, 1st, 2008
This is not just another class on bullying! We will be covering the increasing challenges faced by students who are caught up in social cruelty – face to face and by means of technology ( ie: dealing with text or images can be posted on websites, blogs, or transmitted via email, to discussion groups, message boards, chat rooms, IM or to cell phones). The impact of these targeted and cruel actions can be enormous on our students. At the very least it is a distraction during their school days and most severely it can affect their entire lives with tragic results. We will raise awareness to this growing issue, speak to possible solutions that schools /districts can implement and what we all can do individually to protect and respond to our students who desperately need us to know how to effectively help them. Times: Registration & Continental Breakfast 8:00-9:00am, Class 9:00am-6:00pm Location: EWU Room, Spokane Valley Mall See Driving Directions.
